"Live Music Capital of the World"

Austin is called the "live music capital of the world" because there are more live music venues per capita than such music hotbeds as Nashville, Memphis, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and New York City. I've thought about this a lot lately. I was feeling a little sad that we hadn't ventured out more into this HUGE state we now call home. There's so much to see and do here in Texas and I feel like we've done very little of it. Then, as they started to release the lineup for this years Austin City Limits, it hit me that we've really done a lot in Texas, it's just been here in Austin. We have greatly taken advantage of living in the "live music capital of the world"! We've lived here almost two years, and in that time, we've seen Rob Thomas, Jewel, The Rippingtons, John Mayer, Los Lonely Boys, Van Morrison, Corinne Bailey Rae, Aerosmith, Damian Rice, Fiona Apple, Boney James, Norah Jones, Motley Crue, Eric Clapton, Acoustic Alchemy, and Tower of Power. Ron and Jacklyn saw Aly and AJ and Reily went to Projekt Revolution and saw Linkin Park and My Chemical Romance. Along with all of these concerts, we've seen Altar Boys, Philobolus, STOMP, Man of La Mancha, Pirates of Penzantz, Tuna Vegas, Mama Mia, The Lion King, and The Mikado. I do want to see the rest of Texas, but there's this big roadblock keeping me from doing it... Austin! The music and musicals keep coming and it's hard to not take advantage of it. We love living here in the "live music capital of the world" and hope to be here for many years to come.

Sounds like my kind of place! (No, seriously, we've always dreamed of living in either Austin or San Antonio...)

It has been amazing. There are so many shows every week. While the big shows are great, we've seen so many local bands that we can't remember the names that were fantastic. Even the musicians that play on the weekends at our favorite restaurants are great. So great we've even looked up and few, tracked them down and went back to see them again. Anytime you're up for a good show, come see us in Texas!

OK -that made me tired! You guys sure get around and enjoy life! Do Reily & Jacklyn appreciate the hip parents they have? Do they know how lucky they are? Those are some cool bands--is this a weekly occurance? I can so see you rockin' out at all these concerts, Michelle!

So awesome that you guys take advantage of what is going on in your area!

WOW! Our family loves music and we love concerts too! Maybe will just have to move to Texas! (I probably would if all of our family didnt live here. My kids are at the ages now that they are involved and love their friends they would kill me if I moved now. Hey maybe if I tempt them with all those concerts HEe Hee (do you think that would work?
